Words of Wisdom via Pinterest

These are some of my favorite inspirations to keep me going, humble, and doing my best to train my children in the way they should go.

Truth being spoken here.

This pins commentary is sooo true. It is nice to read it occassionally and keep you in check.

Dont inhibit your children, habilitate.

I am daily working on this one with my 3 rd old. I want her to be constantly curious and never bored.

A constant reminder. They want you... not the latest toy!!

And above everything else. LOVE others!!

Things I have learned thus far.

I know some of you are seasoned moms.
You may find it commical that I even dare write about what I have learned thus far.

But for everyone, Parenthood is a journey, a refining process if you will.

My first bit of advice I recieved was while I was pregnant.

Sidenote:
You see, I was quite a child terror.
People that knew me as a child were always dying to hear "What had I done this time?"

I flushed pennies down the toilet, bathed the dog in fry daddy grease (ruined an oriental rug in the process) spray painted my parents brand new station wagon.

I was a curious child, or so I tell myself. haha

My advice: when your child does something.... laugh and grab the camera! This has saved me several times from an ugly moment.
ie. yesterday.
again, dont yell or get mad.. grab the camera.
usually I am crying I am so mad but laughing at the same time. Its emotions overload.

Several of my friends (who are expecting) have asked what the hardest part was to this point.
For me... with my crazy girl... potty training.
Literally, she would pee in the floor and splash in the puddle.

She even peed on friends carpet. (I could have died) She was defiant, she would do great all day long and when I was distracted for a brief minute she would strike.

The first few days solely in underwear were like a chinese fire drill to our destination.
Our first few outings were to Target. Dear heavens, I felt like I was speeding and driving a woman in labor.
She would bounce, scream "hurry, hurry" I was nervously saying "just hold it, one more minute till we are in the parking lot!!"
Quite hilarious now that I look back!!

My next bit of advice: Do not think reading all the pregnancy books will EVER prepare you for being a mommy.
It won't!!
I am 7 years older than my brother. I started nannying in the summers at 14. I babysat every weekend (for the lack of my first 2 years of college) from 14 until my little girl was born when I was 22. I have had LOTS of practice.

I kept baby, school age, girls, babies, rambunctious boys, multiples, children with special needs. I thought I had experienced my share of all that was out there.

But, you see your own children know you! They know what buttons to push! It's crazy, but they do!
When you feel yourself about to get frustrated.. Walk away! It will save you from doing things you will regret later.

My last bit of advice: Talk about Jesus, and explain Jesus to your babies. From the very beginning. Sing songs, Explain the TRUE meaning of christmas, and the TRUE meaning of easter.

A few weeks ago AC was talking to me while we were in the car.
AC: "Mommy, did you know Jesus died on the cross to save us from our sins?"
ME: (about to burst into tears because what we are telling her is actually sinking in and she is regurgitating it!) "Yes honey I did know that!"
AC: "And when he died Mary put sauce on his bottom!"
ME: "PSSSSSSSShhhhhh WHAT?? Do you mean Mary Magdalene Annointed his body with oil?"
AC: "oh yah, that's it!!"

Later I discovered she was saying they covered his body in SALT!
I was dying!! But hey we made a memory and she is learning.

This is the first of a few posts of what I have learned in my past 4 mothers days (first was while I was pregnant!)
Stay tuned!

Office Bookshelf Styling-client

We are slowly making our way room by room through a clients home.
We had almost everything we needed to go ahead and style the bookshelves in the study so we went ahead and purchased our few lacking pieces.

Here is the shelving on the other side of the fireplace.

The bottom shelf is still a work in progress.
We are waiting to add in the computer desk to figure out the logistics of the wiring and a printer.

The fabrics for this room are Bold and Bright.

Its going to be such a fun and cheery room to come in and work in.

Master Bedroom Complete!

I can gladly say our master bedroom is "complete" and staged to sell.
I wanted to do my best to eliminate personal touches so other couples can see themselves living in this room.
After taking these pictures I removed picture frames from our nightstands.

I used some of my scrap fabric to make a pillow for our glider.
Here is an  upclose of our pillows.
Hopefully once we move I will be able to make my linen coverlet I have been wanting for close to 3 years!
And those of you who know I MUST have a monogram in every room... well I just tucked my personalized pillows I made in the back for now.

Happy Friday

The Time has Come...

Guess what??
frontofhouseforsale

Sorry for the lack of "meaty" blog content lately.
We have been spending almost every waking minute working on this place and getting it sparkly and clean for the soon-to-be new owners.

We don't officially go on the market for the next 15 days.

Hoping to accomplish ALOT more.
Stay tuned as I blog our final projects of our foreclosure fixer-upper over the next few days.

DIY Wooden Picture Frames

**update..... August 2014, its time to revise and revamp this tutorial. right?? working on doing that right now!! stay tuned for a reveal in September 2014

Are you a fan of rustic picture frames??

(via)
These frames are by 2 princesses and 2 frogs. They can be purchased at a local store.

Here is an enormous display of some similar frames.
(via)
I am going to attempt to recreate these with some scrap wood I have in my garage.
Have you seen these on pinterest??

Looks pretty easy.
And much more cost effective to make your own!!

Here is what I came up with.
My "hack" for a $60.00 frame. yes... 60 bucks for scrapwood!

My inspiration:
I purchased one of these frames then decided I could make my own to create a "collection" of this type of frame.

Supply List:
*gorilla glue
*assortment of acrylic paint
*scrap wood
*small mounting  board from hobby lobby or local craft store.
*small clip frame from hobby lobby or local craft store
*paint brushes

btw: Found the mounting board on the unfinished wood aisle in hob lob.

Step1:
Gather some scrap wood and decide which direction you want the wood to go in. These pieces were actually one long 1x2 I had my husband cut down.

Step2:
Have the pieces of wood cut the same length and use your gorilla glue to make a small bead of glue between the wood.
Sit and let "set" for a little over an hour.

Step 3:
Paint the scrap wood layer with a coat of paint and let dry
Paint the mounting board layer and let dry.
Step 4:
Use your gorilla glue to do small dots or a bead of the glue, don't forget to lay something heavy on top for the glue to disperse evenly.

Step 5:
Nail a small nail into the mounting board to attach the clip frame from,
also sand the edges of the mounting board and the edges of the wood.

Step 6:
Decide where to hang, what picture to use, then step back and enjoy!
I think a new school picture will do nicely!
(sorry this one is crooked)

For comparison:
mine $3.00
theirs $60 + tax

LOVIN' $3.00 ALL day Long!!

Modern Eclectic Nursery Redesign- client

Let me start off by saying I absolutely ADORE this girl!!
We had a blast making this room more functional for her precious 11 month old.

A room she can transition from baby into the toddler years very easily!
We used alot of what they already had and just made the room make more sense for the current stage of life they are in.

adoreable alphabet letters with a collection of poms for baby girl to look at.

I shared a pinterest tutorial with the mommy and she and her husband whipped up this adoreable tent for their daughter to play in.

Did I mention the mom is an artist??

She did this incredible painting and I thought it would be so fun and playful in the space!!

Is this little red chair not the cutest thing in the whole world??

We used two placemats and put them together for the perfect chair size pillow!

I adore this 3sprouts organic line.
Such cute and functional storage for kids rooms!!
(you can find it really cheap on amazon!)

A Traditional Kitchen Facelift- client, well sort of.

First of all, this is the "client"
I have for the last 26 years of my life called them mom and dad.

This is how their kitchen has looked since they moved in their home almost 17 years ago.
(well slightly, if you can see from the stain on the ceiling there was a massive flourescent up there until right before I took this picture.
And the space above the cabinets was recently restyled)

The 90's were all about white, white is nice but slowly, one at a time they have replaced the appliances. All that was left to replace was the electric cooktop and double wall oven.
you get the idea.

So after many magazines bought, lots of kitchens examined I encouraged them to replace their countertops, faux the cabinets and get a more natural stone backsplash.

Here we are right after the new granite countertops went in. I told them to pick something not too dark so they will like it for many years to come. It fits their very warm toned home and flows well with the adjoining rooms.

Here is an upclose.

We had the old backsplash professionally removed and backer board installed.
I encouraged them to go with either soapstone or travertine subway tiles for a more modern look in a traditional pallet.

When I took these the countertops had just been installed and we were in the process of repairing a few cabinets before doing one of the cabinet transformations in a box.

We added a stipple brush to give a more custom painted look.
(these pics were taken with my phone yesterday afternoon)

We are having a wedding shower over there this weekend. hope to get some good shots of the kitchen then.
