Acrylic Tray Tutorial

I have been meaning to get this post up for quite some time.
So apologies to those on Instagram I promised I would share this!!
(This is for you Stacy Heckman)
I am sure by now you have all seen the acrylic trays people are using in their homes.

via pinterest, having a hard time embedding the links. so sorry.

via pinterest.
so sorry I am not tagging the original pinner, please forgive me.

But what if you want several sizes???
Recently I was reading a blog who purchased her acrylic "trays" that are actually the acrylic 1" frames from michaels.
Here is how to make your own...
Step 1:
Purchase acrylic frames from michaels.
Step 2:
Add your desired design motif to the top of the frame. (from the inside of the frame the design will reflect once it is in "tray" mode)
I knew I wanted a polka dot design, so I used an eraser to dip in my paint for a perfect dot.

Obviously this step is pretty redundant, but use an at random pattern, trying to remember less is more, dont overpopulate the dots. haha.
Step 3:
Let the dots dry.

Step 4:
after the dots have dried add your desired final coat.
I chose a champagne colored pearlescent pain.

Step 5:

Look For Less: Clam Shell

Ever since I saw Sherry, at YHL use this clam shell as her fruit display in her kitchen I knew I needed one!
Here it is in their new kitchen!

Well I have seen quite a few of these guys popping up as the Nautical trend has seemed to really take flight!

Grandin Road $199 for the large

Ballard $129.00

Z Gallerie $59.95

I think I will stick with John and Sherry and go with Z Gallerie!

Everyone seems to be offering this item and the price range for virtually the exact same item is crazy!!

Hope to plant some orchids in here. We plan on picking on up on our trip to Atlanta in August!

Target: Threshold items

I know if you follow along on Instagram you have seen my recent target obsession!

From Nate to threshold they have really stepped up their game! Usually I find unique pieces at antique stores, local boutiques and Marshall's/ TJMaxx. Well now I can say target is in that category! Consistently for the past few months the items have seemed more high quality and one of a kind!

Do you agree?

Can't wait to go back and buy a few of these guys to accessorize for summer!

I think I may need these for the kids bathroom!!

That Chair

Soo... For most women it's "That Handbag" or "That Pair of Shoes" for me... My thing.... Is "That Chair"

I have been obsessing over French styled chairs for some time now and I must say I am soooo excited my husband let me get it!!!!

We have been looking for one with the down cushioning and a really sturdy chair with the 8 way tied structure!

This chair met all the criteria!!!

Now I just think she needs a skirted table with a mercury glass top by her side and we can call it a day!!

Evolution of a Hallway

While we have lived in our home this poor hallway has had some sort of an identity crisis.

After we moved out last summer, then moved back in we decided to rehang some of our favorite light fixtures.

One was the globe light from Pottery Barn.

After asking probably, oh.... 100 people their thoughts on stripes I Finally took the bull by the horns and did it!!

Naturally all the other walls will also be painted Revere Pewter by Ben Moore.

I wanted this hallway to have some classic touches with a fun fresh feel.

Here is to hoping this is the last time I have to do anything in this hallway.
ps. after painting this piece with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint I discovered I did it totally wrong and will likely be re painting it.
The work is never done.

Channelling my inner Lilly

Today I am completing the decking of our halls so our house is all ready when we return from our thanksgiving travels.

The overall theme this year is a lilly pulitzer-esque whimsical childrens christmas.

Can't wait to share it and some upcoming crafts I have begun!

Lots to be thankful for over here!

Local Home Tour- My favorite House

disclaimer: all of these pictures were taken with my iphone as I am trying to order a new charger for my camera.
And the floor plans:

The first thing you walk in this home and see is the dining room and open living room.
The wallpaper in here was a very bold statement and read very well in the space.

Below you see pictures of the home office. there were way way too many people in here for me to get an overall shot. But the highlighting features were the antler pillows in a burnt umber color and the unique pattern on the tiles in this bathroom. Very strange to me to have a huge full bathroom off the office and no other half bath than the master and this to accomodate guests.

Wet bar back splash and hallway styling.
The kitchen casual entertaining spot was moderately lackluster but the stone fireplaces were in all the homes and the apparent rage.
This is a view from the stair landing.

The little girls room was precious and I loved all the pieces in there.

This chest was gorgeous!

These were the details of the Little Boys Room
No, those are not silhouettes, that is actual photography!
Great local photographer!!

The master bathroom was weird, as were the walk in closets.

Again beautiful furnishings but nothing to write home about in this space.

Where you live do builders get together and build a cluster of high quality homes and do a home show?

Not going to lie I go for the interiors and styling aspect.

Not a single one of the homes impressed me enough to vote on the house that I thought won. Lets just say they were all quite choppy and some had 20,000 sq ft home style home theaters which was very very odd.
These houses seemed to range between 3600 and 5500 sq ft.

Dining Room Progress Update

Ever feel like you take two steps forward and then 10 back in a room.

Well, that has been my dining room.

Just a hot mess express hodge podge of everything.

After moving out this summer then moving back in at the End of August we have been very intentional in keeping only what we Love and will have for a while.

Here is the before: "progress" photo
Basically the only thing I was loving in this room were my two pretty x back chairs we found at a local home decor boutique.

After we re-settled at the house I busted out the Annie Sloan and painted the table.

And the table and 2 x back chairs have a more cohesive look.

So... we have been looking and looking and looking for the right chairs to put at the head of the table.

There has been lots of "pinsperation" and even more research to make sure we get the right thing.
Here are some of the kitchen table and chair "sets" I found and loved.
Finally I just picked something I liked... and...

We saw this chair in person when visiting Mobile over Labor Day and my very sweet mother in law dropped by their store (after we returned home) to pick a pair up for us.
I CAN NOT wait to get them when we are down there for a wedding in 2 weeks!!
Stay tuned for a picture in our actual dining room.

The wood detailing is just a hair off but I think we can make it work.

So... the saga continues now that we are a family of four. We will just have 4 chairs and if anyone comes over we will be scrounging for an addional seat at the table.
(this dining room decorating is turning into the book 'If You Give a Mouse a Cookie',
because now I want freshly painted walls to go with my new curtains, freshly painted table and new chairs.)

The Madeleine chair from Restoration Hardware looks pretty similar to what we already have.
(Wish we could get two more from the boutique here in town but they cannot get any more!! boo)

Hopefully after the new year we can complete our table and chairs set with two of these pretty ladies!
What do you think?

                      Their chair:                                                         My chair:

I think they could work!!
