One Room Challenge Final Reveal

Paint brush down folks.
Whew!! That was fast and furious and I am sooooo glad I attempted this space.

Let's take a quick look at our before.

And you can check out the previous 5 weeks work:
week 1, week 2, week 3, week 4, week 5

Sorry it's grainy!

And the after!

There was so much painting to be done. Soooooo much!!!

So glad it's behind us!!!!

What is still left to do:

get oushak for the area to the left of the cooktop
build small prep table for the cooktop/prep area (stone is in another city and wont be delivered until next weekend)
pick out countertops (a project hopefully for this spring)
pick out smooth cooktop.
(i spend an extensive amount of time on consumer reports selecting things, like too long!)
paint the one lone drawer I forgot and the cabinet door that broke. Yes. seriously
finish the cushions for the bar area (just simply ran out of time)
rework the electrical over the bar area (electrician was super backed up so we are attempting this on sunday, check back!)

We would have never made it this far without the challenge so thank you again Linda for hosting!! Can't wait until next time!!

Orc: Week 5

Seven days.
S E V E N. (Minutes in heaven. Just kidding)

I feel like I am running a triathlon with this room. Swimming was easy, biking has been so so. But running this last leg errr week in. I am having to dig deep and see what we can pull off.

Paint finally arrived for the hardware.

I bucked my gut feeling and instead of the beloved brass I went with chrome.

Chrome paint is hard to find... No?

Well it is. I read a lot of reviews and tried rust oleum. Then bit the bullet and purchased Champions Sterling silver spray paint.

Look at the difference y'all.

It's eons above the competition. Worth the splurge.
See bottom left?
Killer!!!!!

We purchased the fabric For the bar stool cushions!! Then we traced and cut the foam to place the inserts in!!

Real life pics y'all!!!

And most notable progress is the venthood surround.

Getting so close and this is going to make such a huge impact!!!

Now that hardware, majority of fabric and the grit and grime of the cabinets is over time to start the cabinet doors.

So close yet so far away!

Time to run the last leg of this crazy fast Reno race!!!

Hop on over to Calling It Home and see how everyone else is doing!

The hosting designers are KILLING it!!

Happy Halloween Eve y'all!

One Room Challenge: The Kitchen

So excited to be back this fall and to participate in the wonderful ORC!!!

For those of you that do not know what that is, Linda from the blog Calling it home is hosts this event in April and October and has 20 design bloggers join her in revamping or renovating a space.

It give people like me a good opportunity to whip a room into shape!

As you all know I will be transforming our outdated 1979 kitchen and bringing it back to life.

A few quick things.

1. countertops stay.
we just replaced BOTH our HVAC so ughh my 12,000 countertops are keeping me cool in the summer and toasty in the winter.

2.this house is the money pit,
so it is HIGHLY possible something crazy will pop up.

this could get way fun!!!

3. I have been dying to do this since we moved in 14 months ago!!!!

Now... lets get started!!

The layout of the space is remaining so here we are.

how hilarious is it that my child is shaking her groove thing while I took this picture. HA

This is the view from the front door entering the house.

I know you are sad this is going!

(cabinets are not in the best of shape so I will begin now filling in the holes and chunking this hardware)

reminding myself of the end......

In late April I had enough of budge matte walls so we went ahead and selected our wall color. We used Farrell Calhoun paint and the color is Bayou Shade by valspar.
(this is probably the truest depiction of the color)
So here we sit!

Over the next 5 weeks we will conquer:
backsplash
paint all cabinets
add molding throughout the space
refinish the table
make cushions and drapery for the space
build a kitchen island
Create a custom vent hood

Here are a few inspiration pics I keep going back to.

When we DO get around to countertops this is the family we are looking in.

ventahood inspiration

base cabinets again

and backsplash inspiration

Stay tuned, its going to be fast and furious!

Styling: A Client Project

I had such a blast working with Diane.

She is slowly moving through her home and bringing life to a few places that had been "overlooked" when they moved in about 10 years ago.

Diane asked if I would come and help use some of her favorite things and precious family pictures and display them to showcase for when she is entertaining.

The cabinets were originally pickled so after our first meeting she and her handy man collaborated and got to work painting them white dove by Ben Moore. I am sooo impressed with their painting! Diane had the doors sprayed by her handyman and she did the rest!
Here is where we left off right before Christmas.

She and her husband have tons and tons and tons of books so it was a refining process for sure!!

We just met again this last week to finish styling and discuss the next step.
We have a few pieces she has ordered to complete her collections of top right shelf and middle left.
Several of her crystal and hand carved glass pieces just popped against the  accent color we selected!

Now the next step is to use this same accent color and mix it with the pearlescent paint to make her gorgeous custom mantle pop!!

Evolution of a Hallway

While we have lived in our home this poor hallway has had some sort of an identity crisis.

After we moved out last summer, then moved back in we decided to rehang some of our favorite light fixtures.

One was the globe light from Pottery Barn.

After asking probably, oh.... 100 people their thoughts on stripes I Finally took the bull by the horns and did it!!

Naturally all the other walls will also be painted Revere Pewter by Ben Moore.

I wanted this hallway to have some classic touches with a fun fresh feel.

Here is to hoping this is the last time I have to do anything in this hallway.
ps. after painting this piece with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint I discovered I did it totally wrong and will likely be re painting it.
The work is never done.
