Monogram Monday: Favorite Monogrammed Items for Men

Mensware is usually a missed opportunity on the monogramming front.

With the recent resurgence of the monogram, there are plenty of great items to give that man in your life!!

Father's Day is just around the corner you now!

What a great opportunity to get some nice things for dad!!

We purchased one of these mugs for my husband for christmas and he uses it at his desk everyday!
Sweet Amanda at Dixie Delights makes these!!

He said "who cares if it's Tartan, I am bringing it back year round!"
Love that man!!!

You can click on each individual link to see either the store they can be purchased from or their pin on pinterest!

This year I am thinking we will do something with grilling items as we revamp that space!

We received an Alabama "A" branding stick as a wedding gift and C loves.... to use it when we grill steaks and salmon!!

What have you picked out for fathers day??

Monogram Monday: Tailgating Edition

If you live in the south, then you have likely been to a tailgate.
And if you read last years article in Southern Living on Tailgates you know Oxford is where it's at!

and.... if you have been to a tailgate, monograms are present.
(sidenote: at alabama the tailgates are a hair more casual and not so "done up" but I think the actual act of tailgating is such a fun experience in T-town!)

Now! back to monograms!!

For one, its practical.
If everyone has a cooler, then hello... you need to know who's is who's

So here is a quick round up of my monogrammed "Must Have's" for a tailgate.

Love these cups, make carrying your favorite beverage!!

typically when you host a tent, you invite people to visit, sure... you can have red solo cups and other disposable but if you can have personalized cups and a fun "signature item" in your tent! why not?

Are these not the cutest??

This line of servingware comes in just about every Southern college.
Mainly... SEC!

Swoozie's is a great shop to get All kinds of tailgating needs.

Sadly, we no longer have one in memphis so and Etsy it is!!

What are your favorite items to bring to a tailgate?

Happy Monogram Monday Y'all!

As always you can follow my monograms board on pinterest here!

Tween Room

Wanted to give you all a quick update of the tween rooms I am almost finished with.
seriously, how cozy looking is this bedding?

Some accessories like the crosses and picture frames were added and I love her little touches on the space. It really makes it "her" room!!

The paintings were commissioned by Candace Mooneyham.
She is a local artist with an incredible talent.
So honored to call her friend and be able to collaborate on this project together.

All we are missing is one piece of artwork and drapes and this room will be done!!

sources are not provided on paid for projects.

If you are needing assistance with a current project feel free to add Preppie Peonie on facebook or email at preppiepeonie at gmail dot com.

I offer online and local consulting and design services.

Living Room Style Board

Hello friends!
Can I just say thank you from the bottom of my heart??

Ya'll have blessed me beyond measure with all your kind words regarding a piece of our story.

Thank you for trusting me with yours and your outpouring of support. Means the world!

Now that my head is clear, I have been thinking its about time to nail down some elements of this room.

Here is what we are working with.

Contemplating a cowhide rug....
there will be a treatment like in the picture over the fireplace!
and hoping for some ah ha moment on where my pop of color is going to come from!

This is obviously my rough draft board but this is sort of the direction the room is headed in.

getting quotes this week on having the builtins made.
wrapping up switching out the electrical.
and picking out a roller shade for the back door.

Once the roller shade is installed and the outlets switched out I will be sharing pictures!

Monogrammed pillows.Tutorial

I found some inspiration in an unexpected place a couple months back...
I saw these amazing monogrammed pillow sitting on a gorg couch in Guilana and Bill Rancic's Chicago apartment.
After researching for pictures for far too long I googled her name + monogram pillow and lo and behold a tweet popped up!! Yes, twitter is now an amazing resource!!
Come to find out these pillows are Jonathan Adler.

I love these pillows but I have an affinity to have something noone else will have,
therefore I made my own!!
*here is another woman's interpretation of Giuliana's pillows
{ images}

To make your own:

Open Microsoft Word on your computer,
and begin looking through the fonts
I used a similar sans serif font {to the Jonathan Adler pillows}
{this font is Bakersville and I modified the curl of the "r" to something more squared.}

I mixed it up by using lower case.
Did a few trial runs printing the one letter in a really large size;
 I believe 300, 400 something of this size.
{maybe even 600 for a lower case letter}
Cut the letter out and use it as your pattern to cut out your fabric
the fabric for my letter is black linen fabric.
the fabric of the pillow is duck cloth and can be purchased at hancocks, joanns, any place you can find fabric basically.
Attach the letter with straight pins.
Set your machine on one of 2 settings.

{this is where you will need to do some playing around with your machine. some machine's have an applique setting, once in this setting you want the stitch length to be really low, say .6 or .8 so the stitches are really tight; and the width to be really high, say 3.5 or 4, or if you do not have an applique setting you can use your machine's freehand buttonhole setting, again just check the length and width.}

**tip; this is my biggest piece of advice, when you go to attempt an applique USE GOOD THREAD. Don't buy this thread at a basic store like hancock's or joann's. Find your city's local sewing machine store or fine fabrics store and purchase high quality embroidery thread. This thread will be 100% cotton, a very heavy weight and will not be as fragile as a poly/cotton blend. This type of thread will run you $5.00ish a spool.

another reminder, if you are using 2 light weight fabrics buy some fabric stabilizer to help add weight to the back of the design.

Once you have determined which setting your machine will replicate the tightest stitches begin stitching away.

**another great tip, if your machine is not a "free motion" machine; meaning if it does not round curves on its own (often found to be a quilting or applique machine) you will need to stitch a little slower and stop quite often to slightly pivot and turn the fabric so you will have nice seamless stitches.

this is the first of my two pillows.
I am actually glad you can see the minor imperfections and learn from my mistake.
When working with linen and "appliquéing" linen please know the fabric will begin to unravel
You will need some Dritz fray check, use a light amount of this along the edges of the letter BEFORE sewing {make sure to allow time for the solution to dry}

Then sew the letter on.
Tada, I must say I am pretty pleased with the outcome!!
