Kitchen Inspiration.

Now the time has come to move on to the next room in the house.

THE KITCHEN!!!
I have been wanting to work on this room since we looked at the home almost 2 years ago!!!

Here is a picture of the main source of inspiration.
We have a single window in the dining area and I have already purchased the fabric for the cafe curtains.
This is it.

For the bench it will be white and the fabric for the cushion will be a flax linen.

we will add a heavy coat of scotch guard to ward off little bit's messes.

For the wall most of the bench seating we will do a tufted headboard in a subtle houndstooth.

Now on to some technical aspects....
The light over our table has had an electrical short and desipite our efforts to reconstruct the wiring and rework it about 4 times we have come to the conclusion there is too much voltage being drawn and we need a lower voltage light.

Here we have decided to use a Ballard pendant light.

I really like the "French Script" on this shade and we haven't decided yet if it will remain solid linen or possess this script.

Our countertops are the faux granite in the darker coloring and since its impractical for us to replace countertops; (due to the short amnt of time we actually plan on living here) they will remain.

The cabinets are already white and will remain so, for the hardware I am wanting either of these

For the backsplash we know we want the white ceramic subway tiles hung borizontally.
I like this picture for showcasing it with a trim and this is being considered for around the outline of the cooktop to add some visual interest.

For upper cabinets, we are wanting to replace just these (leave the bottom) and put in window cabinets.

Here are several images showcasing this look with the darker countertops.

This image below reminds me most of my kitchen and hopefully with lighter walls and white trim and cabinets we can maintain and light and airy feel.

And for the fridge.....
It's my parents old fridge, we painted it black before we moved in and now i want it to look stainless.
This product looks very promising....

I will let you know how it goes.

And for the artwork over the dining area we are leaning towards a collection of very basic botanical prints.

Okay that is all we have for now. We are toying with some other ideas and would love your feedback and comments.

A Room For Heather

One Day when we are old and gray Heather will be sitting in this little quaint kitchen under her absolutely gorgeous ruffled tableskirt sipping tea waiting on me to stop by.

And maybe just maybe if she loves this enough we could make one for her room.
Here are several things we could highlight in her room, she wants a mature pink toile print and I was immediately drawn to this, but knowing she also loves old hollywood glad, this Candace Olson lamp just sang to me, and this chair, ohhhh this chair, heather will perch here while she applies her makeup.
She wants her bedding to have a very dreamy feel with lots of ruffles, pin tucks, and luxurious fabric.

Love this down comforter, maybe we can find something in this color scheme to drape at the end of the bed, and find a bench like this one to put at the end of her bed as well.
A collection of ornate picture frames would go beautifully above her desk.
Or maybe, just maybe we could find her something so unpractical, that it's just there for show, to add to the aesthetic of the room.
And you know if this girl had it her way she would be working in an office like this....
Maybe we could find some swank lamps like these....

I Dream A dream...

okay now that you have Susan Boyle in your head and a taste of what this post is about.... enjoy what i have been drooling over for the past few days. all photos are courtesy of southernliving.com

when i have my low country home i want my super casual den to look like this!!

Okay, hi my name is jenny beth and i am an addict of expensive things, i love fine linens, and fine fabrics, and high end fixtures, however i am recovering from this addiction and daily find ways to be thrifty and not fall to my inner desire.
hello gorgeous woodwork and fabulous cabinets
creamy marble countertops, white cabinets, this is truly my dream kitchen, not practical with kids, but hey a girl can dream right??
isn't this kitchen just stunning??
this seems a little more practical for me.....
and maybe, just maybe one day we will have our screened in porch finished and can enjoy just as much as i would love to enjoy this one.
OH, My GOSH!!!! could a sun room be any more elegant???? I surely don't think so....
and this beauty of a trellis, i hope to recreate this in my humble abode!!

hope you all enjoyed these beautiful spaces as much as i did, enjoy the last little bit of your weekend before the new work week starts.

Dreaming

Casey and i have been doing alot of dreaming lately... we talk about building our dream home and what it will have and what memories we want to make there... yata yata yata... sooo here are pics of plans of houses we enjoy. the one we really love is a southern living mag plan... straight dream house. enjoy...

love the curb appeal this one possesses. and the quaintness...

or maybe this one... i want a screened in porch for sure... i love screened in porches.... need somewhere to put my rocking chair.
hopefully i will a built in so i can display plates that i am going to beginning to collect.
then i will have cute little spaces to decorate as i see fit. found this adoreable pic on imperfectly beautifuls blog. she does such neat stuff.

and a chic guest bedroom like this.

we are planners for sure, we plan to build this house or buy something with some of these architectural details in the next 5 years or so .... stay tuned for the changes we are making on our current house...

Finally, a home post

Designing a nursery is perhaps my most favorite thing of all times. There is so much newness, growth potential, and the idea that tons and tons of memories will be created here in such a short short time. Whenever i think of decorating a nursery my fave movie comes to mind. Father of the Bride II. Annie and her mother are pregnant at the same time. Haphazardly they run into Frank and they add a wing onto the house for the nursery suite. Its soooo dreamy. Everything that a nursery should be.
Remember this scene?? When the dad is driving home from work in his convertible with the top down?? i can hear the music playing in my head right now.

dont you just want to grab a newborn and go rock in one of those chairs??

if frank really existed i would enlist him to design a nursery for me then be as creative as i could and replicate the design myself. Is that cheating??? I would pay him for the design if i was feeling completely unmotivated. After all i do possess a design degree.... im just saying.

"uhh how do you like it mr. bAhnks?" cant you hear him?? I can.
