At Last ( sing it Etta)

Okay now that we have cued the music join me on this journey of random thoughts.
1. I am still slowly mulling through Facing the Giants by Max Lucado.
2. I have discovered that I have made nice clothing/shoes/handbags my god and one of the ten commandments is to put no other gods before me.

3. working on ridding myself of this god. dont be silly now i am not giving my Burberry and Lilly, but Iam thankful for these items and teaching myself that I cannot purchase them again until they are just things and however much I may appreciate them I won't put them before other things in my life.

4. in an effort to rid myself of these gods i have begun what i am calling a life overhaul and detox. (sorry forgot to take pictures and document this effort) I have ridded myself since May of 2009 of at least 9 bags of clothing. now if you could still currently see the amount of clothes i own it truely is sinful to see what i owned.

5. i undertook the daunting task of organizing all the closets in the house. We have had a few problems with the upstairs closets and finding studs to hang a shelf. Therefore we have decided to do a free standing unit that is attached meerily as an anchor instead of a main support.

now... on this journey what girl doesnt think of Carrie Bradshaw's AH. MAZ.ING closet that Big built for her??
I know i know all those Loubiton, LV, Jimmy's Marc's... ahhh one day when i dont drool overthem i know i can renew my hobby of collecting these gems but for now i would even be okay with this....
again .... i know right?? need i saay more????
via google

so does your closet currently look like this???
well i just wish mine looked at least like this. Join me on a journey of organization, purification, and a sense of finding my dream of a perfectly organized closet. (within reason.)
Pictures to come.
Closing thoughts...
what does your closet look like??
care to join me on a spring cleaning organization party??

Frugalista part two

Okay so for this post i figured i should show you examples of my frugalness and the style is not lacking... first of all my halloween decor...mason jar i had. printed labels on jars offline. crows are bogo at Joann's. pumpkins mom gave me. broom bought at michaels with a coupon, and leaves with a coupon, boo sign from marshalls... total was like 30 bucks.

Another way to save some money is make/buy basic curtains. I chose solid green for the panels in my bedroom at college so i could reuse them again one day. i know i wouldnt be in that college apartment forever and voila... perfect for the nursery...

Other ways to save money are instead of using a contractor to do something hire family and friends to help you with projects. We had caseys dad, Jerry to help us with some crown molding around the front door and i am very pleased how this turned out.

He did an amazing job! So thankful to have such a handy father in law!

Okay I SWEAR my whole house isnt green. I mean come on though its the color of growth and prosperity, (very fitting for our first home as a family). Everything else is tan or blue, dining room will be yellow when we get it painted... we have just been lazy. Hope you enjoyed!

Stay tuned for more updates.

business as usual

Sorry for lack of pictures.
What we have done:
We have been very very busy tying up loose ended projects around the house. Finally there is a fresh coat of paint on my wrought iron storm door, an old nasty green planter in the back is now spray painted bronze.
My patio chairs have been sanded and recoated with teak oil (pb outlet find that i will forever covet and love) and the bathroom cabinets have been rehung. this week will be all about putting the final coat of paint on the cabinets and sealing them with poly.
pics of all of this is to follow. not to mention we got our new dining room chandelier (at a garage sale) and got that hung... and i finally finally finally got anna caroline's nursery looking like i wanted. I will take pics tonight after i get everything cleaned up. i am thinking about putting this stuff on rate my space (hgtv's website) now all we have to do is as follows.
To Still Do:

  • entirely clear off the screened in porch and begin cleaning it so we can paint it white in the hopefully cooler days to come.
  • finish painting the trim in the main room of the guest house so we can lay tiles around the door and casey's dad can come lay my carpet out there.
  • finish the trim moulding boxes by the front door and get the kitchen of the guest house painted... uhhh why is it i feel so tired after just writing this stuff down???
  • anyway we have almost almost completed our bedroom. we are still searching for fabric to use for my cornaces above the panels in our room, need to stain caseys chest of drawers to match everything else and get our flat screen.... oh the coveted flatscreen... then we can lay in bed for hours on end and watch our big tv... thats the plan at least.
