Nursery Diaries: Toy Storage

When deciding how we would store all the toys little babies have I had several ideas in mind.
I loved the Idea of built in shelving.

Cube storage is always nice

And true toy bins

I was open to using one of these ideas in the room in some way...
Just wasn't sure how I would execute.
Then on a random Saturday afternoon I made an out of the ordinary trip to Target. ALONE!
While quietly perusing the aisles I stopped to glance at the Clearance End Rack.
Well if you know me in real life you KNOW "I know Clarence, he is my buddy!"
( I am often quoting this line. haha)
Anywho, I found one of the cube storage containers with a return discount sticker at the bottom of this shelf. The original price from Target.com is $59.99.
The sticker price said $11.99!! I kid you NOT!!!
Well I packed this guy up and loaded him in the car as quick as I could... you see, sometimes the deal makes the decision for you.
And if you can read the wooden blocks then you can see we have named our sweet boy!!
Can't wait for you to see the close ups of everything once I place the finishing touches on the room.
Keeping my fingers crossed everything is able to be completed by this weekend.

Nursery Diaries: Wall color and Painting the Dresser

Remember the styleboard I shared with you all about a week ago??
Well it's high time we start working on this room so let me show you where we started.
Originally, pre knowing the sex of the baby we were doing Aqua, then I thought a creamed white would be nice, but when we found out we were having a boy at 14 weeks I decided we MUST have blue walls, at least for a short while.

So Outlands Dainty Blue by Valspar it was!!
(a very greyish blue)
Then we knew we needed to start working on refinishing the chest of drawers we already owned.
Right about this time I discovered a Pin on Pinterest about using a graywash!!

Took me literally an hour, let it dry for 3 days then went back with a clear top coat to seal it.
And I couldn't be happier!!

And for the crib... we got it put together and I immediately made the skirt out of the Kravet Dotkat fabric!!
Just wanted to give you a quick sneak peek.
Promise to show more once the bedding is finished...
Good project for Thanksgiving weekend??

I hope I can finish it!

Here are a few other pins I am hoping can inspire me to complete the room for the big reveal!!

Completing a seating area.

Finish my strand of "sardine" fish

Complete his mobile

Add a few cutesie touches...

And most importantly wash all of his precious new tiny clothes...

exhibit c classic children's room

exhibit d those silly stripes... I can't get them out of my head!

exhibit e ahh subdued nautical...
I think we are headed somewhere

Fabric swatches:
A quilted white matelasse diamond print.
We will also be using a white denim but its the same color white as this matelasse.
this is a knubby raised fabric... I LURVE it!
And of course I had to add in my beloved stripes!!
And the last fabric is a remnant closeout.
Haven't been able to find it anywhere online so here is the iphone pic.

On monday I will share the accessories we have gathered for the space.

Nursery Diaries Part 1- of many...

Okay so here I sit at 27 weeks.

A few things have been accomplished in the nursery and I wanted to wait until this point to show you how we went about pulling the room together.

First thing we did was order a crib.
This one to be exact.

This is the Sophia fixed gate crib from Pottery Barn.
I was looking for something with a slight vintage throw back but still very modern lines, this was just what we needed!!

We were waiting to do everything else once we figured out what we were having.

Unfortunately I had some unexpected problems upon returning from our disney trip so at the ripe 14 weeks and 5 days we found out we were having a boy!!

Let the planning begin!!

I have always loved a very classic look for a nursery and this time would be no exception, especially if this is our last baby.

My husband and I agreed a nautical theme would add the touch of big boy/non-nursery look we were wanting; but would allow us the ability to choose some very classic and very baby items to place in there as well.

Colors we decided on were a grey undertoned blue, a rich deep navy, creamed white and the greywash made ever so famous by Restoration Hardware.

Be back tomorrow to show the colors and fabric swatches we have come up with!

A Nursery For Addison-Design Board

A friend is having a little girl and trying to figure out how to use existing paint and custom drapes and incorporate these into a nursery she loves.
These fabric options allow you to make these drapes work for the room.

For the rug bring a real punch of color to the room!
{a 4 x 6 of this Dash and Albert is only $104.00!!}

Be back soon with some accessories!!

Finally, a home post

Designing a nursery is perhaps my most favorite thing of all times. There is so much newness, growth potential, and the idea that tons and tons of memories will be created here in such a short short time. Whenever i think of decorating a nursery my fave movie comes to mind. Father of the Bride II. Annie and her mother are pregnant at the same time. Haphazardly they run into Frank and they add a wing onto the house for the nursery suite. Its soooo dreamy. Everything that a nursery should be.
Remember this scene?? When the dad is driving home from work in his convertible with the top down?? i can hear the music playing in my head right now.

dont you just want to grab a newborn and go rock in one of those chairs??

if frank really existed i would enlist him to design a nursery for me then be as creative as i could and replicate the design myself. Is that cheating??? I would pay him for the design if i was feeling completely unmotivated. After all i do possess a design degree.... im just saying.

"uhh how do you like it mr. bAhnks?" cant you hear him?? I can.
